Company Overview

Michael Smith Switchgear Ltd was established in 1985 and is modern, rapidly expanding electrical control and distribution engineering company, serving both industry within the UK and abroad. Since then we have worked hard to secure a recognised brand within the marketplace. Michael Smith Switchgear offer a wide range of products from switchboards up to 5000A, panel boards, PDU’s and Power Factor Correction Units, site retrofitting and maintenance contracts on existing and new switchgear systems.

Summary

We are seeking an Switchgear Installation Operative to join our dedicated team at Michael Smith Switchgear Ltd. To assist with installing panels at customer locations that are fit for purpose and in line with company requirements and expectations.

Responsibilities

· Predominantly on-site work at various locations throughout the UK, working in the factory when no site work is available.

· On-site work – assisting with installing panels at customer locations including bolting panels together, copper bars being connected and wiring installed and connected.

· Attending customer sites to carry out modifications as required.

· Carry out on site modifications as required.

· Factory work when no site work is required – assisting with any labouring requirements as advised by the Workshop Supervisor.

· Maintaining high housekeeping standards at all times in the factory and on-site including assisting with daily cleans when in the factory.

· Working and communicating effectively with other staff members to ensure job is completed efficiently and to customers; requirements and expectations.

· Ability to work on their own initiative and to lead a small team.

· Adhering to health and safety regulations.

· All other duties as required that are considered to be a reasonable employer request.

Requirements

· Competent at using the following machines; circular saw, pneumatic punches, wall saw, pillar drills and various hand tools, bending machine and the linisher.

· Displays a confident and clear approach when communicating with internal and external customers.

· The ability to build relationships with people quickly through effective communication.

· Displays an enthusiastic and positive attitude.

· Respectful of customer confidentiality and also when handling customer information.

· A genuine team worker.

· Must be punctual.

· Must be reliable and honest.

· Good attention to detail and high standards of work ethic.

· Positive attitude to decision making and considering what is best for the Company at all times.

· ECS Card for on-site work preferrable.

· Full driving licence.

· Accurate measuring ability and good numeracy skills and experience of using a tape measure.

· Experience in switchgear and low voltage switchgear systems preferable.

· Previous panel/electrical experience preferable.

Salary: Starting at Minimum Wage

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30. However, overtime is highly likely, and a degree of flexibility is required, including the potential for weekend work, in order to meet customer requirements.

Benefits: Length of service increase holiday entitlement, profit-based bonus and appraisals annually.
