The Production Planner is responsible for the creation, monitoring and optimising of the Master Production Schedules (MPS) for the Alloy Products department. The Planner will take into account key elements such as forecast demand, production costs, inventory costs, lead times, capacity, inventory levels and scheduling of raw material and will use this information to continuously update the MPS for the AP department, working in close collaboration with Operations and the Commercial team.
The Planner will actively contribute to and manage the output from the monthly Sales Demand Review into a workable Production Plan and will create the monthly updated Supply Review document to align customer demand with production capacities.
The role will report to the Materials & Planning Supervisor.
Core duties
· Creation and monitoring of the Production Plan against available capacities to meet the needs of the business and customer.
· Identifying and implementing changes to production schedules to ensure that production deadlines are met.
· Attendance at daily AP operations reviews.
· Leading the AP forward order review meeting with Commercial every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
· Active involvement with the implementation of future IT systems (ERP). Developing a working solution to integrate advanced ‘Scheduling and Planning’ software/practices into the business whereby a stable plan and capacity profile is routinely produced whilst at the same time improving the business ‘On Time Delivery’.
· Monitor and report departmental KPI’s and drive improvement in the KPI’s which the AP Planner has influence over.
· Fulfil a leading role with regard to AP OTIF and Arrears performance. Devise and implement ways to continuously improve performance against the critical KPI’s.
· Risk Management - Identify and provide solutions to potential risks to the plan; and mitigate where possible.
· Plan achievement/adherence - Monitor progress against plan, make and communicate team plan and Master plan changes, to facilitate on-time delivery to customers.
· Develop a robust process to schedule raw materials for the AP department to ensure that adequate material is available for production without the risk of overstocking expensive inventory.
· Identify and resolve problems relating to inventory and play an important role in managing and improving AP performance against inventory levels and targets.
· Develop and update capacity models for AP in close collaboration with Operations and Commercial colleagues, and work with department leadership to develop manning and equipment plans that align with forecasted demand.
· Continuous Improvement - Investigate, recommend, and implement new or improved production planning methods, processes and systems to increase manufacturing efficiency. Improve reporting and reduce costs, whilst constantly reviewing targets, and prioritising orders taking into consideration company commitments and customer satisfaction.
· In addition to tasks detailed within this Job Description, the AP Planner may be asked to perform additional tasks deemed fit by the Supervisor or Line Manager

Hours of work:- 38 hours per week
08.00 – 16.30 (Monday to Thursday)
08.00 – 14.30 (Friday) with 30 minutes unpaid lunch breaks on each day
Salary:- dependent on experience
25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
(increasing by 1 loyalty day every 5 years service to a total of 5 additional days)
Company pension after 3 months – 5% employer, 4% employee contribution
