Paralegal/Senior Paralegal – Data Protection & Data Subject Access Requests
We are recruiting for a Paralegal/Senior Paralegal to join our Document Review and Collation (DRC) team in Bristol. This role is being offered on a full time basis.
The DRC team is a recognised centre of excellence within TLT and a recognised leader in optimised managed legal services, operating as a seamless extension of both TLT and client legal teams to drive efficiency, quality and value. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, the team is trusted to deliver with distinction, underpinned by leading-edge technology, streamlined processes and advanced resourcing strategies.
We are looking for a candidate with proven, hands-on experience of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), who is ready to take a lead role in this workstream. Depending on your experience, you may be appointed at Paralegal or Senior Paralegal level.
You will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality legal services in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment, with significant autonomy to manage and drive forward DSAR projects from scoping through to production.
- Undertaking first-level reviews of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) to a high standard, with close attention to detail, accuracy and speed, including the application of redactions and exemptions under data protection legislation.
- Acting as lead reviewer on DSAR matters, taking full responsibility for scoping the request, overseeing the review process, liaising closely with the QC/second-level reviewer, and supporting the production of the final response.
- Undertaking quality checks of first-level review work carried out by colleagues, providing constructive feedback to individuals and/or the management team as appropriate.
- Analysing new DSAR instructions received into the team, taking detailed instructions from fee earners, and making suggestions to streamline and improve the process for greater efficiency where appropriate.
- Using e-disclosure platforms such as Relativity to conduct document reviews and e-disclosure exercises.
- Communicating with client teams and external clients as required, ensuring that instructions are sought, followed and clearly documented throughout the lifecycle of a matter.
- Reporting regularly to management on the progression of ongoing matters, ensuring deadlines are met and workloads are effectively managed.
- Training new members of the team on DSAR processes and technology.
- Managing your financial outputs carefully, ensuring that changes to time, cost and quality on any given project are properly considered and communicated.
- Working collaboratively as part of the team whilst exercising independent initiative to manage your own workload efficiently.
- Significant paralegal experience gained within a document review or data protection role, with a particular focus on Data Subject Access Requests.
- Proven technical ability to work on a DSAR for any client or matter type, taking the role of lead reviewer: scoping out the SAR, overseeing the review through to production, and liaising closely with the QC/second-level reviewer throughout.
- Proven ability to identify privilege and handle confidential information with discretion and to run document reviews to a high standard with accuracy and minimal supervision.
- Experience of using document review platforms such as Relativity or similar eDiscovery tools; a general understanding of eDiscovery technology and its appropriate and effective application is essential.
- Experience of drafting and maintaining precedents and training materials.
- Strong ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients across multiple teams, as well as with external providers, with a drive for business development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong self-management skills and the ability to multitask, prioritise competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
- Accuracy, good organisational skills and the flexibility to adapt across a varied and changing workload.
