Engineering & Design Technician / Coordinator
Goldvale Steel Fabrications Ltd – Structural Steel Fabrication
Goldvale Steel Fabrications Ltd is looking for a capable Engineering & Design Technician / Coordinator to join our growing team.
This is a practical technical role sitting between estimating, design, detailing, fabrication, and project delivery. We are not simply looking for someone who can produce drawings. We need someone with strong technical understanding, good attention to detail, and the ability to help turn client information, drawings, engineer details, and project requirements into clear, buildable information for our workshop and site teams.
The role would suit someone with experience in structural steel, construction, fabrication, draughting, engineering coordination, or a related technical background. The right person will be organised, commercially aware, accurate, and comfortable working in a busy fabrication environment where drawings and details need to be right before work reaches the workshop.
Main Responsibilities
The role will include:
- Producing and reviewing general arrangement drawings, fabrication details, mark-ups, and technical sketches.
- Working from client drawings, engineer calculations, specifications, sketches, and survey information.
- Supporting structural steel design coordination, including connection details, member layouts, bracing arrangements, and buildability checks.
- Liaising with engineers, clients, detailers, estimators, project managers, workshop staff, and site teams.
- Preparing drawing packs and technical information for approval, fabrication, procurement, and installation.
- Checking drawings and details for accuracy, clashes, omissions, missing information, and practical fabrication issues.
- Supporting material take-offs, cutting lists, bolt lists, and project information packs.
- Helping resolve technical queries before and during fabrication.
- Maintaining clear drawing revisions, records, and project information.
- Supporting improvements to Goldvale’s drawing, detailing, and engineering processes.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in structural steel, fabrication, construction, engineering, draughting, or a similar technical field.
- A good understanding of drawings, dimensions, steelwork layouts, and construction details.
- CAD experience, ideally with AutoCAD, Tekla, Advance Steel, or similar software.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot errors before they become workshop or site problems.
- Good communication skills and confidence speaking with engineers, clients, workshop staff, and managers.
- A practical mindset and an understanding of how drawings translate into real fabrication and installation work.
- The ability to manage workload, priorities, revisions, and deadlines.
- A willingness to learn Goldvale’s systems, standards, and ways of working.
Useful But Not Essential
The following would be beneficial, but are not essential:
- Experience with structural steel detailing.
- Experience with portal frames, mezzanines, staircases, platforms, handrails, secondary steelwork, or architectural metalwork.
- Knowledge of StruMIS or steel fabrication management systems.
- Experience preparing approval drawings or fabrication packs.
- Understanding of steel connections, bolts, plates, welds, cold rolled steel, cladding interfaces, or site installation requirements.
- Experience working directly with fabrication workshops.
The Person
We need someone who is:
- Accurate and methodical.
- Practical and technically curious.
- Able to take responsibility for getting information right.
- Comfortable asking questions and chasing missing information.
- Calm under pressure.
- Able to work with both office and workshop teams.
- Interested in growing with the business and improving how technical information flows through the company.
What We Offer
- A varied technical role in a growing steel fabrication business.
