A Snapshot of Your Day
This role is being created to provide enhanced resources and capabilities within the field of Rotor Dynamics within the Compressor Rotor Department of Siemens Energy Small Gas Turbines. Exciting new and emerging applications for our products are requiring increasingly complex evaluation and assessment. At the same time, we are engaging in new R&D activities to support our core engine product range.
To meet these business needs, the role requires: Rotor Dynamic Analysis & Simulation to validate designs for new and emerging applications, and cross-functional Technical Collaboration to resolve complex engineering challenges.
Rotor Dynamics represents the primary focus of the position. However, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to broader Compressor Mechanical Integrity activities or support Aerodynamics or Aero-Mechanics work packages. Candidates with existing experience in these areas are particularly welcomed, although a willingness and aptitude to develop capability in one or more of these disciplines is equally important.
Given the focus on specialised engineering analysis, the ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering and rotating machinery, with proven experience in rotor dynamics, hydrodynamic bearing systems, and the application of advanced analysis and simulation tools.
How You'll Make an Impact
-
Perform detailed rotor dynamic analyses for new and existing small gas turbine designs, including lateral, torsional, and stability assessments.
-
Develop, validate, and maintain simulation models to predict the dynamic behaviour of rotating machinery across a range of operating conditions and applications.
-
Prepare clear technical reports and engineering recommendations to support design reviews, product development, and customer-facing activities.
-
Analyse, select, and specify hydrodynamic bearing systems for gas turbine applications, ensuring optimum performance and reliability.
-
Investigate and resolve bearing- and vibration-related issues through root cause analysis, testing, and design validation activities.
-
Collaborate with Compressor, Turbine, Product Support, Manufacturing, Test, and Research & Development teams to solve complex vibration issues.
-
Provide specialist support for production, validation testing, field investigations, and in-service product issues relating to rotor dynamics and vibration performance.
What You Bring
-
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
-
Demonstrated professional experience in rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, structural analysis, or rotating equipment engineering, preferably within the turbomachinery, power generation, or industrial equipment sectors.
-
Strong technical knowledge of Rotor Dynamics and Hydrodynamic Bearings, supported by practical analysis and problem-solving experience.
-
Experience using beam element modelling, finite element analysis (FEA), and specialist simulation tools to evaluate rotating machinery performance.
-
Knowledge of one or more complementary disciplines such as Mechanical Integrity, Compressor Aerodynamics, Aero-Mechanics, Structural Analysis, or Turbomachinery Design would be advantageous.
-
Candidates with limited experience in these secondary disciplines but a strong appetite to develop broader technical capability are encouraged to apply.
-
Strong communication and influencing skills, with experience presenting technical information to a range of stakeholders.
-
Some experience in vibration diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of rotating machinery issues.
