NHS Fife is offering an exciting opportunity for an innovative and motivated pharmacist to join our surgical pharmacy service, with a core leadership role in expanding pharmacy input into pre-assessment, general surgery, urology and ENT specifically. This is a unique chance to help transform the way services are delivered, influence service redesign, and directly improve outcomes for patients across Fife.
As a Senior Clinical Pharmacist, you will become a key member of a multidisciplinary team driving high-quality, patient-centred care. You will develop specialist expertise and work with patients in both pre-assessment and the clinical ward environment, supporting safe prescribing, treatment optimisation, and monitoring. You will also have the opportunity to expand the existing pharmacist-led outpatient clinics and develop the inpatient ward service in line with local and national priorities, enhancing your clinical assessment skills and offering genuine continuity of care. An Independent Prescribing qualification is highly desirable, and for candidates not yet qualified, we will fully support training and supervised practice.
This post sits within the wider surgical team, whose portfolio includes Gastroenterology and Orthopaedics with close working between the lead pharmacist and respective senior pharmacists for those areas. An integrated and experienced range of static and rotational pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work across all surgical areas to support inpatient priorities and service development needs. You will work closely with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist and play a critical role in the introduction and optimisation of new and existing therapies, ensuring safe, effective and evidence-based prescribing pathways. You will advise on, and often lead, the development of clinical guidelines while supporting joint decision-making with patients, consultants, specialist nurses and the wider MDT.
You will demonstrate strong, collaborative leadership, contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, education, and medicines optimisation at service and organisational level. You will be supported closely by the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Surgery, the wider Senior Pharmacy Team, and a committed planned care service progressing through a major transformation programme. This role offers significant scope to shape clinical practice, lead service innovation, and contribute to the future strategic development of pharmacy services in NHS Fife.
The NHS Fife Pharmacy Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people, and is provided by an integrated team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
