About the role
We are seeking a proactive and organised Production Planner to coordinate and manage our assembly operations. This role is responsible for translating customer demand into achievable production schedules, ensuring material availability, supporting sales with accurate delivery lead times, and helping maintain on-time customer delivery.
In a small, fast-paced business, this is a hands-on role requiring strong communication, problem-solving, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Create and maintain daily and weekly production schedules
- Sequence assembly work to meet customer deadlines and optimise efficiency
- Adjust plans in response to changing priorities, shortages, or delays
- Provide Sales with estimates of production capacity
Materials & Component Planning
- Review bills of materials (BOMs) to ensure all required components are available
- Identify material shortages and coordinate replenishment with purchasing
- Monitor supplier lead times and support expediting where necessary
Shop Floor Coordination
- Liaise closely with a small team of assembly technicians to track work-in-progress
- Identify bottlenecks and resolve scheduling issues
- Reprioritise jobs as needed to maintain delivery performance
Order Tracking & Communication
- Monitor progress of production orders against agreed timelines
- Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders (e.g. sales, management)
- Work closely with the sales team to provide realistic production availability and lead times for customer quotations and new orders
- Support sales in assessing capacity and delivery commitments to help secure business while maintaining achievable schedules
- Highlight risks to delivery and propose solutions
Inventory & Stock Support
- Support accurate stock control and inventory records
- Assist in maintaining appropriate stock levels and reorder points
- Help minimise excess or obsolete inventory
Systems & Reporting
- Maintain planning data planning software and/or ERP systems
- Contribute to improving data accuracy and planning processes
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve production flow and planning efficiency
- Support implementation of improved systems or processes over time

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Experience in a production planning, scheduling, or coordination role
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Good working knowledge of Excel (or similar tools)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
Desirable:
- Experience in assembly or manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
- Understanding of bills of materials (BOMs) and supply chain processes
- Experience in an SME or hands-on operational role
