We are an established and growing business seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Director to work closely with the Managing Director and lead the financial function of the business.
This is a hands-on senior role suited to someone who enjoys working within an SME environment and can combine strategic financial leadership with practical day-to-day financial management.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Finance Director will take ownership of the financial performance, reporting, controls, and commercial analysis of the business.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting growth, improving visibility across the business, and ensuring strong financial discipline and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the finance function and oversee all financial operations
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting processes
- Develop financial KPIs and performance reporting
- Analyse profitability, margins, and operational performance
- Support strategic business planning and growth initiatives
- Manage relationships with external accountants, banks, and advisors
- Ensure robust financial controls and compliance procedures
- Oversee payroll, tax, VAT, and statutory requirements
- Provide commercial insight and challenge to support decision-making
- Improve systems, processes, and reporting capabilities where required
About You
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role
- Experience within SMEs or owner-managed businesses preferred
- Commercially focused with strong analytical skills
- Hands-on and comfortable operating at both strategic and operational level
- Strong communicator with the ability to work closely with senior leadership
- Experience improving financial systems and reporting processes
- Confident managing cash flow and supporting business growth
