About the Women's Team:

Our team is committed to fostering a supportive environment that empowers female athletes to showcase their skills and reach their full potential.

We prioritise player development through tailored training programs that focus on technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical fitness.

The SAFC Women’s Football Team benefits from strong collaboration with our Coaching and Analysis teams, ensuring that our strategies and training sessions are informed by the latest insights and best practices.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a creative, organised and proactive Comms and Content Manager to lead the planning, production and delivery of engaging communications and content for SAFC Women. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how the team’s story is told, grow fan engagement and support the continued development of the women’s game at Sunderland AFC.

You will be responsible for developing compelling content across digital, social, matchday and media channels, ensuring that every piece of communication reflects the club’s voice, values and ambition. Working closely with players, coaches and internal stakeholders, you will identify strong stories, coordinate media activity, support matchday delivery and bring supporters closer to the team throughout the season.

The successful candidate will combine excellent writing and storytelling skills with strong digital awareness, sound editorial judgement and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced football environment. From press releases and website articles to social-first content, interviews and campaign planning, you will play a key role in building visibility, momentum and connection around SAFC Women.

What We Ask For:

We ask that you bring experience in a communications, content, media, journalism, PR or digital role, ideally within sport, football or another fast-paced public-facing environment. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate, engaging and audience-focused content across multiple channels, alongside a strong understanding of social media platforms, digital content trends and how to tailor content for different audiences.

You should be confident managing media activity, drafting press releases, coordinating interviews and supporting matchday communications. The role also requires the ability to build effective working relationships with players, coaching staff, colleagues, media representatives and external stakeholders, while managing competing deadlines, planning content calendars and responding quickly to changing priorities.

A creative mindset, strong attention to detail and a passion for storytelling, women’s football and the continued growth of SAFC Women are essential. You should also be flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends where required, in line with the women’s team schedule, including fixtures, matchdays and key club events. Experience using content management systems, social publishing tools and creative software would also be advantageous.

You will be required to obtain an Enhanced DBS through SAFC.
