Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (On-site)
Salary: £23,500 – £26,500 per annum
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
The Opportunity
For an aspiring legal professional, the transition from academic study to a high-performance law firm is the most defining moment of your career. This Trainee Paralegal position is designed to be a significant catalyst for your professional growth, offering a rare level of immersion in complex legal matters from day one.
In this role, you will move far beyond theoretical knowledge, gaining the practical, high-level experience that sets the elite apart in the Newcastle legal market. By joining a team that prioritises your development, you will benefit from direct mentorship, an accelerated learning curve, and the chance to build a sophisticated professional portfolio that will serve as a powerful foundation for your future as a solicitor or legal expert.
A Foundation for Your Legal Career
The transition from a degree to a legal practice requires a specific set of skills that cannot be taught in a lecture theatre. As a Trainee Paralegal, you will be integrated into our core legal teams from the outset. You will be tasked with meaningful work that impacts the outcome of our cases and the quality of service provided to our clients.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:
- Case Preparation and Management: Assisting in the end-to-end management of legal files, ensuring all documentation is accurate, compliant, and submitted within strict judicial deadlines.
- Substantive Legal Research: Conducting detailed research into case law, statutes, and regulatory requirements to support the strategic decisions of senior solicitors.
- Drafting Legal Documents: Producing initial drafts of instructions to counsel, witness statements, and formal legal correspondence.
- Client Interaction: Serving as a professional point of contact for clients, providing clear updates, and gathering necessary information with empathy and discretion.
- Procedural Compliance: Developing a deep understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and ensuring all actions align with the highest standards of professional conduct.
Professional Development and Skill Acquisition
We recognise that our firm’s success is built upon the competence of our staff. Therefore, this role is structured as a period of intensive professional development. By working alongside qualified legal professionals, you will gain technical proficiency in areas that form the bedrock of a successful legal career.
Key areas of development include:
- Commercial Awareness: Learning how a legal practice operates as a business and how to balance legal excellence with operational efficiency.
- Technical Drafting: Moving beyond academic writing to master the precision and clarity required in professional legal documentation.
- Critical Analysis: Developing the ability to identify key legal issues within complex factual scenarios.
- Professional Conduct: Understanding the ethical and regulatory framework governed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Who Should Apply?
This role is specifically tailored for individuals who are ready to commit to the rigours of a professional legal environment. We are looking for candidates who view law not just as a job, but as a long-term career path.
You will likely be a Law Graduate (LLB or GDL) or perhaps you have completed your LPC or SQE and are seeking the practical experience necessary to progress. However, we also welcome applications from highly motivated individuals with a strong academic background in other disciplines who can demonstrate an exceptional work ethic and a logical, analytical mind.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- An uncompromising attention to detail and a high standard of written English.
- The resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- A professional demeanour and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to learning, with the confidence to ask questions and take ownership of tasks.
