Fixed term community midwifery team lead opportunity to cover 12 months maternity leave, from September 2026.
We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, dynamic and inspirational senior midwife to lead the community services in the Riverside community midwifery team, based in North Tyneside.
You will need to be able to demonstrate recent clinical experience, have the requisite level of competencies at band 7 and provide evidence of on-going professional development. Leadership training, NLS and ALSO completion would be desirable. Further education is encouraged, including support to attend relevant courses to maintain personal and professional development to meet service needs. We offer a comprehensive in-house training package as well as having strong links with local Universities.

The successful candidate will also be responsibility for service improvement in accordance with national guidance e.g. Saving babies lives and the Maternal care bundle, Maternity incentive scheme and recommendations from future Maternity reviews.
Opportunities will be given to rotate to the birthing centre within the innovative Northumbria specialist emergency care hospital. This unit provides both obstetric and midwifery led care, giving midwives excellent opportunities to develop all round experience in a progressive environment.
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. To take 24-hour responsibility for the efficient and safe management of a ward/department
To be responsible for all midwifery care standards and to maintain high clinical standards
To provide senior midwife unit management cover
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards.
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which

(b) uses coaching
to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement
