Tolchards is a leading, family-owned drinks wholesaler serving the South of England, headquartered in Torquay, Devon. Founded in 2010, the company supplies over 2,000 products—including wines, spirits, beers, ciders, and soft drinks—to around 2,500 pubs, bars, restaurants, and hospitality venues.

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled HR Business Partner to join our organisation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in aligning human resources strategies with business objectives, fostering organisational development, and supporting management and employees across various departments. This position offers an excellent opportunity to utilise data analysis skills and HR systems expertise to drive impactful HR initiatives and optimise workforce performance.

Duties

Collaborate closely with senior management to develop and implement HR strategies that support organisational goals.
Analyse workforce data to identify trends, forecast staffing needs, and inform decision-making processes.
Provide expert guidance on human resources policies, employment law, and best practices to managers and staff.
Support talent acquisition efforts and coordinate recruitment activities.
Facilitate organisational change initiatives, including succession planning, employee engagement programmes, and leadership development.
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policies through regular audits and reporting.
Promote a positive workplace culture by fostering open communication channels and supporting employee relations.

Person Specification - Essential

· Proven generalist HR experience, including employee relations, organisational change and manager coaching.

· Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.

· Experience of partnering with managers to deliver practical people solutions aligned to business needs.

· Ability to manage a varied and often sensitive workload with professionalism, sound judgement and discretion.

· Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility at all levels of the organisation.

· Experience of handling complex casework and supporting formal HR processes.

· Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret HR data and identify trends or risks.

· Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and operate in a fast-paced environment.

· Strong written skills and attention to detail, including the production of reports, letters and people documentation.

· Competence in Microsoft Office and HR systems.

· Commitment to equality, inclusion, confidentiality and professional integrity.

Desirable

· CIPD Level 5 qualification or above, or equivalent experience.

· Experience within distribution, logistics, wholesale, retail or other operationally focused environments.

· Experience of supporting TUPE transfers, restructures or multi-site operations.

· Experience of contributing to HR projects and process improvement initiatives.

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
