Production Administrator
[Desired start date] August/September 2026
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Production Administrator to support the day-to-day administrative operations of our production department. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring production information is accurate, documentation is maintained, and communication between production, planning, procurement, and other departments runs smoothly.
This role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide administrative support to the Production Manager and production team.

Prepare, issue, and maintain production schedules, work orders, and manufacturing documentation.

Enter and maintain accurate production data within the company's ERP/MRP system.

Monitor production paperwork to ensure completeness and compliance.

Produce daily, weekly, and monthly production reports and performance metrics.

Maintain production records, including quality documentation, batch records, and traceability information.

Coordinate with Planning, Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality, and Engineering departments to support production activities.

Assist with stock control and inventory administration where required.

Raise purchase requisitions and process production-related documentation.

Schedule meetings, take minutes, and distribute action points where necessary.

Ensure all documentation complies with company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.

Support continuous improvement initiatives through accurate record keeping and reporting.

Assist with onboarding and maintaining training records for production employees.

Undertake general administrative duties to support the efficient operation of the manufacturing department.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
Essential
-
Previous experience in an administrative role, ideally within a manufacturing or production environment.

Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Experience using ERP, MRP, or manufacturing management systems.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

Professional, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
-
Experience of ISO quality management systems.

Understanding of manufacturing processes and production planning.

Experience working with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or similar ERP systems.

Knowledge of stock control and inventory management.
Qualifications

GCSEs / Nat 5’s including Maths and English.

A Business Administration qualification would be advantageous but not essential.

About our project in Port of Nigg, Highland
Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission
cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.
The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a
significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission
infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond.
In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum
utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.
In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction
of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands.
The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for
connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
