Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and caring Health Care Assistant to join our team at Little Lights Baby Hospice. This rewarding role involves supporting babies, children, and young people with life-limiting or complex health conditions, while providing comfort and reassurance to their families.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver high-quality, family-centred care within the hospice environment, ensuring every child receives personalised support that promotes dignity, comfort, play, and quality of life. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference during some of the most important moments in a family's journey.

Key Responsibilities

Support babies, children, and young people with personal care needs, including washing, dressing, feeding, and maintaining comfort.
Assist nursing staff in delivering individualised care plans tailored to each child's needs.
Monitor and report changes in a child's condition, wellbeing, or behaviour to the clinical team.
Provide emotional support and reassurance to children, siblings, parents, and carers.
Support children in age-appropriate play, sensory activities, and recreational programmes.
Help create a warm, safe, and nurturing environment that promotes comfort and quality of life.
Assist with mobility, positioning, and the safe use of specialist equipment where required.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with hospice policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, volunteers, and other professionals to provide holistic care.
Follow safeguarding, infection prevention, health and safety, and confidentiality procedures at all times.

Skills and Experience

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
A caring, empathetic, and patient approach when supporting children and families.
Experience in a healthcare, hospice, care, childcare, or support setting is desirable.
Understanding of person-centred and family-centred care principles.
Ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
Basic IT skills for record keeping and documentation.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently when required.
Commitment to maintaining dignity, respect, and compassion in all aspects of care.
Skills in stoma care, ventilation, tracheostomy care beneficial.
