Reporting to the Store Manager/Manager/Supervisor, the Retail Sales Assistants role is to provide assistance and excellent customer service to the customers of UNIFORM DIRECT the store, online shop and other retail initiatives and presentations at schools.
The applicant must have an awareness of local schools. Excellent fluent English speaking, understanding and writing. Ability to speak multiple languages aids in helping our customers. We are looking for applicants who have lived in the area served by the store, for a minimum of three years. Experience in merchandising is a plus as is proficiency in basic maths, time management and IT. We are looking for applicants with a strong phone etiquette and organisational skills.

Our peak period is from 1st June to 15th September and annual leave is not permitted during this time. We have annual company closedown over Christmas and New Year.
Starting salary is minimum wage
A typical working day is 9am start and 5pm finish - in our peak periods will be earlier start and later finish, typically at the end of August/beginning of September. Applicants will be required to work full time during July , August to early September. We require applicants to work to the needs of our business, we cannot offer work to applicants who have restrictions to their availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Duties
To ensure the smooth running of the shop, and maintaining the shop standards by:
- Participating in the day-to-day running of the shop.
- Keeping the shop and displays clean and tidy at all times.
- Keeping the stockrooms orderly at all times.
- Maintain regular checks on levels of stock and report to Store Manager/Supervisor.
- Operating the till and accurately handling cash and credit/debit cards transactions.
- Maintaining accuracy of signs, price and size information throughout the store, correct and report to the Store Manager/Supervisor.
- Respond to orders received online/phone by processing sales and packaging orders.
- Follow cashing up procedures report discrepancies
- Assist in changing displays of shop stock.
- Receiving deliveries, unpacking and re-shelving or storing stock.
- Assisting with regular stock checks and annual stock takes
- Looking after all aspects of the shop whilst the Store Manager/Supervisor is away.
- Ensuring all fire exits and escape routes are kept free from obstruction.
- Being vigilant at all times and to help minimise stock loss.
- Maybe required to stand in for supervisor/manager and hold keys.
Attend at school marketing events as and when required - some schools may be quite a distance away and these events are invariably in the evenings.
Customer Service
To ensure that excellent customer service is demonstrated at all times by:
- Developing a good knowledge of all the schools and their uniforms and all shop stock, Maintaining accuracy in all aspects of customer service and advice.
- Informing the public about the benefits of school uniform being available from Uniform Direct and developing new business leads..
- Respond to general customer enquiries and complaints received in person, by phone or email – report to Retail Manager
- Work as part of a team with the other staff members and be aware of what is happening in the rest of the business.
General
- Ensure any issues concerning customer care are reported to the Retail Manager.
- Comply to high standards of personal presentation for dress and hygiene.
- Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are effectively carried out and report any concerns to the Retail Manager.
Contribute to the continuing development of Uniform Direct
- Contribute to the identification of Branch objectives for the short, medium and long term
- Work as part of a team with other members of staff to continue developing new leads and increasing the numbers of schools within the company portfolio.
- Maintain regular dialogue with schools and school staff ensuring our information is up to date and accurate
- Observe and be alert of competitor activity and report to Store Manager
