CMR UK Ltd is a North-Tyneside-based manufacturer of industrial engine controls and instrumentation, wiring systems, harnesses and sensors.
Established in 1984, we are a part of a global manufacturing business with operations in more than 40 countries. The business manufactures components that are supplied into performance-critical sectors including Power Generation, Marine, Automotive and Rail.
We are currently looking for a Strategic Buyer Apprentice to join our dynamic team. During the 24-month apprenticeship programme you will develop the skills, knowledge and experience needed to begin a successful career in strategic purchasing. The role combines hands-on experience with formal learning aligned to the Level 3 Supply Chain Practitioner standard, progressing into a Junior Buyer position. with a further development plan to support your future growth towards a Strategic Buyer and Commodity Leader position.
You will benefit from a structured training programme, additional placements across the wider supply chain function, and support towards achieving full MCIPS accreditation.
Responsibilities
During your apprenticeship journey, you will progressively move from observation and support into ownership and independent delivery. You will lean on the job while getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Learn purchasing approval processes and how internal teams interact with suppliers.
- Gain experience using ERP systems (e.g. Dynamics AX) and BI tools for spend reporting and supplier data.
- Support core procurement processes including RFQs, contract approvals, and compliance requirements.
- Support live Requests for Quotation (RFQs) by gathering data and preparing quotation comparisons.
- Track and monitor supplier KPIs including cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Gain exposure to forecasting and demand planning processes.
- Learn how demand fluctuations influence purchasing decisions, stock levels, and supplier capacity.
- Conduct supplier communication, bid analysis, and recommendation preparation.
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain KPI dashboards.
- Build commercial awareness through market research and supplier reviews.
- Analyse risks, cost drivers, and market trends.
- Manage supplier performance, relationships, and continuous improvement activities.
Entry requirements
· Strong interest in Strategic Purchasing / Supply Chain / Logistics activities and willingness to build a long term career in this field
· Good numerical and analytical skills
· Good computer skills – e.g Microsoft Excel (basic level desirable)
· Effective communication
· Self-motivated, driven and willing to learn
· GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English (Grade 4 minimum)

Pay: £21,157.50-£24,784.50 per year
