Engineering Technician Apprentice – Electronics & Automation
£8.00 per hour | Full training provided | No previous electronics experience required
Are you good with computers, interested in technology, or the sort of person who likes figuring out how things work?
You might never have considered a career in electronics or engineering before — and that's absolutely fine.
We're looking for an Engineering Technician Apprentice to join our team and learn how modern electronics manufacturing works from the inside.
You don't need previous engineering, electronics or manufacturing experience. We'll train you.
This is a varied, hands-on technical role where you'll work alongside our engineering and New Product Introduction (NPI) team, learning how products move from a customer's design into real-world manufacture.
You'll work with computers, software, production machinery and electronic products while developing practical engineering skills.
What you'll learn
You'll gradually be trained to help with areas including:
- Setting up new products for manufacture
- Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Creating and maintaining manufacturing documentation
- Preparing work instructions and production information
- Processing engineering and manufacturing change notes
- Programming and setting up production equipment
- Maintaining and troubleshooting manufacturing machinery
- Checking manufacturing processes and identifying problems
- Supporting continuous improvements to our production processes
You'll also gain hands-on experience with equipment used in modern electronics manufacturing, including:
- Solder paste printing equipment
- SPI – Solder Paste Inspection
- Pick & Place machines
- AOI – Automated Optical Inspection
- Selective soldering equipment
- Conformal coating equipment
- Product testing and inspection equipment
Don't worry if none of those names mean anything to you yet — that's what the apprenticeship is for.
Who we're looking for
We're much more interested in your attitude and potential than previous experience.
You could be a good fit if you:
- Are confident using computers and learning new software
- Enjoy technology and figuring out how things work
- Have good attention to detail
- Like solving problems
- Are comfortable learning through a mixture of practical work and computer-based tasks
- Can follow instructions carefully
- Are organised and methodical
- Aren't afraid to ask questions
- Want to develop a technical career and learn new skills
You do not need previous electronics experience.
You don't need to know how to solder, program manufacturing machinery or understand electronic circuits before joining us.
Interests such as computers, PC building, coding, gaming, electronics, robotics, 3D printing, engineering, fixing things or experimenting with technology may help — but none are essential.
What the role is really about
We want to develop someone who can eventually understand both the product and the manufacturing process.
As your knowledge develops, you'll take on more responsibility for setting up products, programming equipment, creating manufacturing documentation, solving production problems and supporting our engineers with new products.
You'll gain experience of both engineering and automated manufacturing, giving you a broad technical foundation for your future career.
What we offer
- Starting pay of £8.00 per hour
- A recognised engineering apprenticeship
- Full on-the-job training
- Practical experience with modern electronics manufacturing technology
- Support from experienced engineers and manufacturing staff
- The opportunity to develop real engineering and technical skills
- Increasing responsibility as your knowledge develops
- A potential long-term career in engineering and electronics manufacturing
Job type: Apprenticeship
Pay: From £8.00 per hour, increasing where required in line with National Minimum Wage regulations
Experience: No previous engineering or electronics experience required
If you're interested in technology but aren't sure what career you want to pursue, we'd particularly encourage you to apply.
You don't need to already think of yourself as an engineer.
We'll teach you the engineering. We're looking for the curiosity to learn it.
Pay: From £8.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
