It is essential that the post-holder should hold an MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification, on the GMC specialist register and hold either a respiratory/GIM CCT (or be within 6 months of obtaining this at time of interview). Candidates with a CESR/portfolio pathway in respiratory medicine will also be accepted.
The positions described in this job description are for fixed term locum physicians in respiratory medicine based at Northampton General Hospital. You will be expected to participate in ward cover 2 weeks in every 8-10. There are plans to develop a respiratory on call rota which will provide 7 day cover and telephone advice overnight, but this is not yet in place.
We are open to discussions about flexible and part time working. We are also open to discussions about different working options such that if the candidate wishes to include procedural sessions (bronchoscopy / EBUS / pleural) or other specialist interests we will consider modifying the job description as such.
The job description offers a representative suggestion of a timetable but is open to negotiation.
To provide clinical services in respiratory and internal medicine to the local population of south Northamptonshire including inpatient care, respiratory clinics and procedures (including pleural and bronchoscopy procedures).
To participate in the development of Respiratory Medicine services.
To participate in the respiratory on call or the Respiratory support unit and other aspects of respiratory care as future developments require.
To provide input to the education of medical undergraduates on placement in NGH.
To support and provide teaching and training of junior medical staff, post graduate training and nurse training on the unit.
To participate in the Department of Medicine meetings
To ensure good practice by regular audit and review of incidents with the clinical team and take forward lessons learnt.
To link with directorate clinical governance meetings and contribute to lessons learnt from incidents and complaints.
To take part in the on call respiratory rota.
