Ducks Hill Farm is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Poultry Manager to join our growing free-range egg business and diversified family farm on the outskirts of London.
We are a third-generation family farm of 150 acres within the M25. Our family has farmed at Ducks Hill since 1960 but has recently developed a diverse livestock enterprise that includes free-range laying hens, ducks, broilers, pigs, and cattle. Our produce is sold through our on site vending machine and supplied to a range of local shops and restaurants.

All our poultry are within small mobile flocks and eggs are collected manually.
The Role
As Assistant Poultry Manager, you will play a key role in the day to day management of our poultry enterprise, ensuring high standards of bird welfare, production, and farm presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring stock levels and replenishing the farm vending machine
- Egg collection, grading, sorting, and quality control
- Daily management and monitoring of laying hen and poultry flocks
- Identifying and responding to health, welfare, and performance issues within flocks
- Carrying out routine salmonella testing
- Managing poultry housing, including feeding, bedding, and seasonal movements
- Assisting with the relocation and cleaning of mobile poultry houses
- Delivering eggs and produce to local customers
- Maintaining accurate production and performance records
- Supervising, training, and supporting part-time poultry staff
- Assisting with farm maintenance and general husbandry tasks
- Supporting the farm's social media and customer engagement activities
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with laying poultry and different livestock
- A genuine interest in agriculture, sustainable farming, and regenerative farming practices
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong awareness of bird welfare
- The ability to work independently and use initiative
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Confidence managing, training, and motivating others
- A full UK driving licence
- Experience operating tractors and telehandlers (preferred)
Working Hours
- Typically 7:00am–4:30pm (flexibility available for the right candidate)
- Five days per week, Monday to Friday
- One working day every two weekends on a rota basis
Accommodation Package
Accommodation is available as part of the role and is valued at approximately £15,000 per year. Should accommodation not be required, the salary is negotiable.
