We’re a small team with big ambitions, and we’re looking for a hardworking, reliable Assistant Groundworker to work directly alongside our highly experienced groundworker across a range of projects. You’ll be hands-on from day one, learning the trade properly while contributing to real work on site.
Our two main projects are the construction of a new agricultural grain store, followed by a substantial new-build house with a basement, including all the associated groundworks, civils, and drainage for both along other developments as needed. Unlike many groundwork roles, you’ll be learning from an experienced professional every single day, gaining valuable hands-on experience across all aspects of the trade.

What you’ll be doing
- Working alongside our experienced groundworker on the grain store and, subsequently, the house with a basement
- Carrying out the associated groundworks, civils, and drainage across both projects
- General groundwork and site preparation: excavation, trenching, levelling, backfilling, and compacting
- Preparing foundations and sub-bases, and setting out, digging, and finishing
- Installing and connecting drainage systems
- Operating plant and machinery safely and responsibly, where qualified and competent
- Loading and unloading materials, and keeping the site tidy, organised, and safe
- Working as part of a small team to get jobs done to a high standard
What we’re looking for
- Experience in groundwork
- Experience with drainage
- Confident and experienced in driving and operating machinery
- Physically fit and healthy, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather, this is an active role
- A strong work ethic and a genuine desire to learn and improve
- Reliable, punctual, and a good team player with solid site-safety awareness
- A full UK driving licence
Particularly suitable for
This role would suit someone who:
- Has groundwork or drainage experience and wants to develop further
- Comes from an agricultural or farming background and is experienced operating machinery such as telehandlers, tractors, or excavators, and is looking to move into groundwork
- Wants to build a long-term career within the construction and groundwork industry
Desirable (but not essential)
- Relevant plant operator tickets / CPCS or NPORS cards
- CSCS card
- First aid or health & safety training
