Job Overview
Transport Made Simple is one of the UK’s largest independently owned bus and coach operators. Our Central Connect local bus network has an annual ridership of more than 10 million passengers, delivered in partnership with sixteen Local Transport Authorities. Alongside running local bus services, we provide home-to-school, rail replacement and Demand Responsive Transport services, operate corporate and event shuttle buses and run our own programme of holidays and day trips. We also hire out our buses and coaches to a range of clients, from schools, colleges and local businesses to major names in the travel and tourism industry, such as Leger Holidays, Flixbus and PGL.
Our solutions go beyond moving people - we also support commercial fleet operators across East Anglia with reactive and pre-planned maintenance solutions from our accredited workshops, offering heavy and light vehicle MOTs, bodywork repairs and resprays, heavy recovery and breakdown response, including 24/7/365 roadside tyre assistance provided by sister company Lion Tyres Essex.
Cafe Connect Co. is an innovative retail proposition, combining a high quality cafe offering with the provision of friendly, in person customer support to passengers using our Central Connect bus network. We operate from facilities which are on, or close to, the public transport network, helping promote sustainability whilst serving great food and drink, with as much as possible sourced locally from across our network.
Key Responsibilities:
Barista duties:
- Prepare and serve tea, coffee and other beverages to a high standard
- Prepare and serve light food items
- Operate coffee machines and café equipment safely and efficiently
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the counter area, preparation area and seating
- area
- Charge customers accurately for their products, handling cash and card payments
- Support with the preparation and delivery of corporate catering orders
- Follow all food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures
Customer service and bus enquiries:
- Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive experience for all visitors
- Assist customers with basic enquiries about local bus services using provided resources
- Direct or escalate complex enquiries where necessary
- Maintain a helpful and informative presence for visitors
- Provide customers with copies of printed bus timetable information where requested
About you

You will prepare and serve beverages and light food options whilst delivering excellent customer service. Being part of our Central Connect team, you will also assist customers with general enquiries about our local bus services. Full training and guidance will be provided, so prior knowledge of local bus routes is not required.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a customer-facing environment and takes pride in delivering a welcoming and efficient service.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Minimum 6 months’ experience in a customer service role
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and confidently assist members of the public
- Basic knowledge of the local (Norwich) area
We are recruiting multiple team members with varying hours available. Please indicate in your application whether you are seeking full time or part time work, and your weekly availability.
Due to the location and size of the cafe, staff will be expected to work independently during quieter weekday periods. At weekends the café is expected to be busier therefore lone working will not normally be required.
