Alternative Provision Assistant

Aspire: Alternative Provision

Location: The Jubilee Community Centre NR1 2EX

Hours: Monday and Thursday mornings (8:30am-12pm)

Start: September

Rate of Pay: £12.71 per hour

Part time hours: 4-8 hours a week subject to hours available.

About the Role

We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and reliable Alternative Provision Assistant to

support autistic children who find mainstream educational environments challenging. This is

a rewarding opportunity to work within a play-based learning environment, helping children

develop confidence, communication, social skills, and engagement through structured and

child-led activities.

The role involves supporting children across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, contributing to

planning and delivering engaging activities, and helping to create a safe, nurturing, and

inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

●

Assist with planning and delivering age-appropriate activities for KS1 and KS2 pupils.

Set up and prepare learning and play resources before each session.

Support autistic children to access activities and achieve their individual goals.

Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using supportive and inclusive

approaches.

Help maintain a safe, stimulating, and educational environment at all times.

Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and other professionals where

required.

Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies and procedures.

Observe and record children’s progress and achievements where appropriate.

Essential Requirements

●

A genuine interest in supporting autistic children and young people.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in a variety of situations.

Enhanced DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one prior to employment.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.Desirable Experience

●

Previous experience working with autistic children or children with additional needs.

Experience within education, childcare, youth work, alternative provision, or

play-based settings.

Knowledge of SEND, autism, sensory differences, or inclusive practices.

Training and Support

Previous experience is preferred but not essential. Full training, ongoing support, and

relevant inset opportunities will be provided to help you develop your skills and confidence

within the role.
