The Role
As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you will work under the guidance of experienced engineers on the analysis, design, and delivery of a variety of structural projects. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills, gain hands-on project experience, and progress towards professional qualification with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and analysis of building and infrastructure structures in materials such as steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
- Produce structural calculations, drawings, and design reports.
- Use structural design software such as Tekla, Tedds, STAAD.Pro, or ETABS.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other design disciplines to deliver coordinated and buildable solutions.
- Support senior engineers in preparing technical documentation and project deliverables.
- Participate in site inspections, surveys, and project meetings as required.
- Ensure all work complies with current British Standards, Eurocodes, and Building Regulations.
- Contribute to sustainable and cost-effective design approaches.
About You
Essential:
- MEng or BEng (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics and design principles.
- Familiarity with design software (e.g., Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds, AutoCAD, Revit).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
- Desire to work towards professional chartership (IStructE or ICE).
Desirable:
- Previous placement or internship experience within a structural or civil engineering consultancy.
- Knowledge of sustainability and low-carbon design principles.
- Full UK driving licence (advantageous, but not essential).
