Join a forward-thinking compliance team dedicated to protecting lives and buildings. We specialise in passive fire safety, ensuring university estates and public properties meet strict statutory legal regulations. We pride ourselves on nurturing raw talent, making this the perfect place for an ambitious student or recent graduate to build a high-demand, long-term technical career from the ground up.
The Opportunity
Are you looking for a career with a real sense of purpose? Fire safety compliance is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the built environment. As a Trainee Fire Door Surveyor, you do not need any prior industry experience. We provide a fully structured training programme, professional hands-on mentorship, and the industry certifications you need to become a qualified specialist. You will learn how to evaluate critical fire barriers, use cutting-edge diagnostic technology, and help keep the university community safe.
What You Will Learn & Do
- On-Campus Inspections: Work directly across the University of Nottingham campus alongside senior surveyors, inspecting fire doors, frames, hardware, and seals across various university buildings.
- Regulatory Compliance: Master current building regulations, British Standards (e.g., BS 8214), and national fire safety legislation.
- Defect Identification: Learn how to spot critical faults, structural wear, gaps, or incorrect installations that could compromise building containment during a fire.
- Digital Surveying: Use specialised tablet-based software to log data, capture photographic evidence, and map building safety assets.
- Report Generation: Assist in compiling detailed, high-quality compliance reports and remedial action plans for the university estate.
- Client Interaction: Develop professional communication skills by interacting with campus facilities teams, accommodation managers, and site staff.
What We Are Looking For
This role is specifically tailored for students or recent graduates who are eager to learn. We value your attitude, curiosity, and potential far more than your past experience.
- Attention to Detail: You have an analytical mind and naturally notice small details that others might easily miss.
- Strong Communication: You can write clear, concise English for professional safety reports and speak confidently with campus staff.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using mobile applications, tablets, and basic office software (Excel, Word) to record and manipulate data.
- Problem-Solver: You possess a practical, logical mindset and enjoy figuring out how mechanical components work together.
- Reliability: Punctual, self-motivated, and capable of representing the company professionally while working in busy campus environments.
What We Offer You
- Comprehensive Training: A fully funded, step-by-step training framework with clear learning milestones.
- Industry Credentials: Opportunities to gain recognised industry qualifications.
- Career Fast-Track: A direct progression pathway from Trainee to Qualified Surveyor or Fire Safety Consultant.
- Tools for the Job: Provision of all necessary PPE, tablet, and technical tools.
- Supportive Environment: Work within a collaborative, friendly team that actively invests in your personal and professional development.
