Transport Operations & Customs Coordinator
Location: Leicester – Thurmaston
Salary: £28,000 – £34,000 basic (Salary dependent on logistics/customs experience) + bonus + healthcare

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Transport Operations & Customs Coordinator to join our growing logistics operation in Leicester. Duties & Responsibilities
Transport Coordination
- Coordinate and manage all business collections with end-to-end responsibility, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of goods.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers, suppliers, freight forwarders and customers.
- Utilise logistics software and internal systems to track and monitor shipments in real time.
- Organise shipment schedules while ensuring compliance with operational procedures and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners to resolve transportation issues quickly and efficiently.
- Monitor emails and incoming calls to provide a high level of customer service.
- Maintain accurate transportation records, logs and operational documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and support initiatives that enhance operational efficiency.
- Support the business during peak operational periods and contribute positively to team performance.
- Take ownership of daily transport operations and proactively resolve operational challenges to maintain service levels.
- Perform any other duties reasonably required to support company objectives.
Customs & Import/Export Support
- Assist with import/export coordination and customs-related processes.
- Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers and carriers to support smooth customs clearance.
- Support the preparation and checking of shipping and customs documentation including commercial invoices and transport paperwork.
- Monitor customs-related delays or issues and proactively communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and international shipping requirements where applicable.
- Support continuous improvement within customs and logistics processes.
Requirements
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Previous experience within transport, logistics, freight forwarding or customs coordination is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.
- Knowledge of import/export procedures, customs clearance processes, freight forwarding or carrier management would be highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with Incoterms, shipping documentation or customs systems is desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel for communication and reporting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer service focused with a proactive and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to think quickly and make effective decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- Flexible approach to supporting the business during busy periods, including overtime where required.
- A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop within the logistics industry.
Shift Pattern (Rotating)
- 07:00 – 15:00
- 12:00 – 20:00
