This is an exciting opportunity to join the Major Trauma Team and support the submission of data to the National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR). We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and organised individual with strong data management skills and experience using spreadsheets, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
The NMTR Data Coordinator is a key member of the Major Trauma Service, responsible for coordinating and managing NMTR data submissions for the Trust, an Adult Major Trauma Centre (MTC) within the Central England Trauma Network (CETN).
Working closely with clinical and administrative teams, the post holder will accurately extract, interpret, validate, and submit clinical information from patient records in line with national guidance, quality standards, reporting requirements, and submission deadlines. The role is vital in supporting high-quality trauma care through robust data collection, analysis, and reporting.
As part of the CETN, UHCW collaborates with Trauma Units across the region and is a member of the Midlands Critical Care and Trauma Network. The post holder will build effective working relationships with colleagues within UHCW and across the wider trauma network to ensure accurate and timely data submissions. This information supports national dashboards, peer reviews, service accreditation, clinical audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives, helping to drive improvements in trauma services and patient outcomes.
Coordinate accurate and timely submission of data to the NMTR via ORP in line with NMTR inclusion criteria and national requirements.
Identify, validate and submit all NMTR-eligible cases in accordance with national guidance, reporting requirements, agreed timelines and data quality standards.
Use EPR and other Trust systems to identify trauma admissions and extract relevant clinical information, including ED, imaging, theatre and inpatient data.
Collect, interpret, validate and enter clinical data into the NMTR, ensuring accuracy, completeness and adherence to data quality standards.
Work with clinical, coding, operational and management teams to review injury and outcome data, resolve discrepancies and improve data quality.
Produce and disseminate reports to support performance monitoring, benchmarking, quality improvement and service development.
Provide trauma-related data to authorised internal and external stakeholders in accordance with information governance requirements.
Support audits, peer review, accreditation, research and service improvement activities through the provision of high-quality trauma data.
Develop effective working relationships across the Major Trauma Service, CETN and partner organisations.

Ensure compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, Trust policies, and Information Governance requirements when handling patient information and sensitive data.
Maintain and update relevant databases and information systems to support the accurate recording, validation, and reporting of trauma patient activity.
Correct data errors and complete missing information within patient records, including demographic, activity, and clinical data, to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
Obtain, verify, and validate information from internal and external sources to improve the quality and integrity of NMTR submissions.
Investigate data quality issues, identify trends and discrepancies, and liaise with relevant clinical, operational, coding, and managerial teams to ensure timely resolution.
Assist with requests for information from clinicians, managers, researchers, and other Trust colleagues, providing data and analysis to support service improvement, audit, research, performance monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives within the MTC.
Support the production of NMTR submissions, reports, and data returns required for national audits, peer review processes, accreditation requirements, and service evaluation activities.
Undertake any other duties relevant to the NMTR role as reasonably required, including providing cross-cover during periods of annual leave, sickness absence, or increased workload.
Provide advice, assistance, and support to colleagues within the department and wider Major Trauma Service as required.
Ensure that relevant standard operating procedures, guidelines, and work instructions are maintained, reviewed, and followed in line with Trust requirements.
Participate in appraisal, personal development reviews, mandatory training, and continuing professional development activities to maintain and develop knowledge and skills relevant to the role.
Participate in training relating to Trust systems, software applications, and NMTR requirements to ensure continued professional and technical development.
