We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Transport Manager to lead our HGV transport operation. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the legal and operational compliance of the fleet, provide strong leadership to the transport team, and drive continuous improvement across the department.
Overview of Role
Reporting to the Senior Management Team, you will hold Transport Manager responsibility for the operation, providing effective and continuous management of the transport function.
You will be accountable for ensuring the legal compliance of the HGV fleet, including Operator's Licence undertakings, drivers' hours, tachograph and maintenance requirements, and for leading the transport administration team in support of this.
Key Accountabilities
- Hold Transport Manager responsibility under the Operator's Licence, providing continuous and effective control of the fleet
- Ensure full compliance with O-licence undertakings, drivers' hours and working time rules, and tachograph regulations
- Oversee the vehicle maintenance programme, including inspections, MOTs and tachograph calibration, and manage the relationship with third-party maintenance providers
- Lead, manage and develop the transport administration team, ensuring accurate records and robust compliance systems are maintained
- Act as the main point of contact for DVSA, the Traffic Commissioner and other regulatory bodies
- Monitor fuel spend and fleet KPIs, carrying out analytical work to identify trends, efficiency opportunities and cost savings
- Contribute ideas and lead initiatives which improve the department's ability to provide exceptional customer service
- Champion continuous improvement in ways of working across the transport operation

Professional Qualifications / Training
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in National Road Haulage is essential; International CPC is desirable
- Proven track record operating as a nominated Transport Manager, with a sound understanding of Operator's Licence compliance
- Must demonstrate competence, enthusiasm and initiative, with the ability to work both as part of a dynamic team and independently
