Set up, operate, and monitor where necessary saw and drill machines within the Machine Shop. Also once fully trained operate the Kasto storage system and other pieces of machinery in the Machine Shop.

Summary
We are seeking a skilled Saw and Drill / Machine Shop Operative to join our dynamic team in in our purpose built multi-skilled Machine Shop. This is a new role within Transdek.
You will be using our automatic and manual heavy duty saw machines along with other machine shop equipment to prepare structural steal components of varying sizes as required in our manufacturing environment as as necessary for stock.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for operating and maintaining the saw and drilling equipment used in the machine shop prior to it entering our manufacturing environment. You will be required to cut steel to the exacting dimension on our technical engineering drawings along with drilling holes where necessary in steel profiles as per the exacting details of the engineering technical drawing.
Typically your tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Handling steel using a jib crane and FLT
- Cutting steel profiles to exacting engineering technical drawings
- Ensuring end profile meets the exact requirements of the technical drawings
- Adjust machine settings where required
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, ensuring all equipment is free of obstructions and hazards
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting
- Accurately complete production log
- Follow safety protocols and always use appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Communicate with supervisors and other team members to coordinate workflow and resolve issues
- When not using the saw and drilling machines you will be working within the Machine Shop on a variety of machines that you will be appropriately trained to use
Qualifications/Skills
- Previous experience in a structural steel manufacturing environment would be beneficial
- Knowledge of automatic, semi-automatic and manual saws
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with heavy machinery operation
- Experience with crane operation
- Fully competent in reading engineering technical drawings and producing steel to size and requirement
- Communication: Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
- Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and dependability
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to dust and noise, variations in climate
- Requires standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and operating machinery
- May require overtime depending on production demand
Hours of Work
Full Time - 38 hours per week
Monday to Thursday 07:30 - 16:00 and Friday 07:30 to 14:00 hrs
Reasonable overtime required
Full training will be provided, but experience in structural steel or manufacturing is beneficial. Reliability, teamwork, and good communication are essential.
