Full job description

About the Role

This role is suitable for a practical engineering professional who can maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment within an industrial or technical-services environment.

You will work closely with production teams, technicians, engineering colleagues, suppliers, and contractors to reduce equipment downtime, improve reliability, and ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and restore operations efficiently.
Inspect machinery for signs of wear, damage, or declining performance.
Complete scheduled servicing according to maintenance plans.
Replace defective components, bearings, motors, sensors, and other equipment parts.
Support installation and commissioning of new machinery.
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
Investigate recurring equipment failures and identify root causes.
Recommend practical improvements to equipment reliability.
Monitor critical equipment and identify potential failures before breakdown.
Conduct routine safety inspections of machinery and engineering systems.
Support production teams with technical troubleshooting.
Coordinate specialist repairs with external contractors when required.
Maintain suitable stocks of critical spare parts.
Assist with equipment upgrades and modifications.
Support continuous-improvement and downtime-reduction initiatives.
Ensure maintenance work follows approved health and safety procedures.
Keep workshop areas, tools, and maintenance equipment organised.
Provide technical feedback to engineering and operational management.

What We Are Looking For

At least 2–4 years of experience in maintenance engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing maintenance, or a related position.
Practical mechanical and electrical maintenance experience.
Ability to diagnose faults using a structured troubleshooting approach.
Experience maintaining industrial machinery or automated equipment.
Good understanding of motors, sensors, bearings, pumps, and mechanical systems.
Basic knowledge of electrical control systems.
Ability to read technical drawings and equipment manuals.
Understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance practices.
Strong technical problem-solving skills.
Good attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
Ability to manage planned maintenance alongside urgent breakdowns.
Strong communication skills when working with operators and engineering colleagues.
Good written and spoken English.
A recognised qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, maintenance engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline is preferred.

Preferred Skills

Experience working within manufacturing, automotive, warehousing, or industrial environments.
Knowledge of programmable logic controllers and automated systems.
Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
Familiarity with computerised maintenance-management systems.
Understanding of condition-monitoring and predictive-maintenance techniques.
Experience with conveyor systems or automated material-handling equipment.
Knowledge of variable-speed drives and industrial motors.
Experience supporting equipment-installation projects.
Familiarity with root-cause analysis techniques.
Relevant electrical or mechanical engineering certification.
Knowledge of continuous-improvement or lean-manufacturing principles.

You are practical, dependable, and comfortable solving engineering problems under operational pressure. You understand that effective maintenance requires both fast response to breakdowns and careful preventative work that reduces the likelihood of future failures.

You take ownership of equipment issues, document completed work accurately, and communicate potential reliability or safety concerns early. You continuously look for practical ways to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and maintain a safe working environment.

Pay: £3,500.00-£4,000.00 per month
