Upton-By-Chester Golf Club is a mature, 18 hole, par 69 parkland course, with a thriving membership, measuring in excess of 5804 yards from the White tees. Accuracy is required from the tee to the tree-lined fairways and small undulating greens.
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Greenkeeper to join our team and help maintain the course to a consistently high standard. This is a hands-on outdoor role suited to someone with strong practical skills, attention to detail, and a positive approach to teamwork. The successful candidate will support the day-to-day presentation, maintenance, and improvement of all playing surfaces and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, and surrounding landscaped areas.
- Operate and maintain turf care machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with mowing, aeration, top dressing, scarifying, overseeding, and general turf management operations.
- Support course improvement, renovation, drainage, irrigation, and seasonal project work.
- Undertake vegetation management, including tree and shrub work, using chainsaw equipment where qualified and required.
- Apply pesticides, herbicides, and other approved treatments in line with spraying certification, legislation, and health and safety procedures.
- Monitor course conditions and report any issues relating to turf health, machinery, hazards, or presentation standards.
- Work as part of the greenkeeping team, including rota-based weekend shifts and early morning duties as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Level 2 qualification in Sports Turf, Greenkeeping, or equivalent.
- Valid chainsaw certification.
- Valid spraying certificates, ideally PA1, PA2 and PA6 or equivalent.
- Previous experience in greenkeeping, grounds maintenance, or sports turf operations.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures and safe use of machinery.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and carry out physically demanding tasks.
- A proactive attitude, good timekeeping, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The working hours vary between summer and winter months and will be either 32.5 or 42.5 per week. There is also potential to work overtime and a bonus is paid annually and free golf membership is offered.
