We are seeking a Senior Operations Planner who is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and optimisation of operational activities across the Industrial & Tanker planning functions.
The role ensures safe, compliant, and profitable service delivery by overseeing planning, transport operations, fleet compliance, and resource management.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Performance
- Lead and manage daily operations across all divisions, ensuring efficient and seamless service delivery.
- Take full ownership of P&L performance, driving profitability, cost control, and identifying growth opportunities.
- Manage and develop operational teams, including managers, planners, drivers, and fitters.
- Monitor workloads, prioritise activities, and ensure adequate staffing levels across all divisions.
- Support recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of operational staff.
- Promote continuous improvement and operational efficiency across the business.
Operations Planning & Scheduling
- Oversee the planning and scheduling of daily and weekly operational activities, including industrial services and tanker transport.
- Ensure effective allocation of staff, vehicles, equipment, and subcontractors to meet operational demands.
- Drive optimisation of routes, schedules, and resource utilisation.
- Manage dynamic re-planning in response to breakdowns, delays, or changing customer requirements.
- Maintain on-call rotas and ensure adequate out-of-hours operational coverage.
- Ensure all projects are delivered end-to-end, including planning, resourcing, and supervision.
Compliance, Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all transport, environmental, and health & safety regulations.
- Maintain oversight of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to safe systems of work.
- Investigate incidents, issues, or non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a senior point of contact for customers regarding operational activities.
- Ensure high levels of customer service, communication, and issue resolution.
- Build strong internal relationships with Sales, Operations, and Maintenance teams.
- Provide proactive updates on operational performance, delays, and service delivery.
Financial & Administrative Management
- Manage operational budgets, spending, and cost control initiatives.
- Support revenue growth through resource optimisation and service improvements.
- Ensure all jobs are commercially valid, authorised, and documented.
- Maintain accurate operational, transport, and compliance records.
- Oversee purchase orders, disposal bookings, and operational documentation.
Main Accountabilities
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a strong understanding of all company services and market conditions.
- Monitor employee availability, including holidays and sickness, to maintain operational continuity.
- Support cross-functional coverage where required.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong leadership and operational management experience.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, P&L, and operational performance.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, time-critical environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and operational/planning systems.
- High attention to detail and compliance awareness.
Desirable
- Experience in industrial services, logistics, waste management, or environmental services.
- Experience with tanker operations or hazardous waste handling.
- Knowledge of ADR, RAMS, and HSE compliance standards.
