About the Role
You are invited to apply for the position of Research Technician to join Professor James Chalmers’ research team at the University of Oxford.
Professor James Chalmers specialises in translational and clinical research on respiratory diseases, including bronchiectasis, COPD and pneumonia, with a focus on microbiology, immunology, disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies. You will be expected to provide high quality technical assistance to Prof. Chalmers and the other members of the research team. As a research technician you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the lab and studies with direct benefit to patients such as clinical trials and patient cohort studies. You will work alongside other research technicians within the group and contribute to the timely completion of research projects including processing of sputum, blood and bacterial samples, biobank use, and other related activities in partnership with the principal investigator, postdoctoral researchers, and other research staff and students.
The post is full time and fixed term for 2 years.
The post is only available as full-time on-site.
About You
To be considered for this position you should;
- Have experience of working in a laboratory environment
- Be educated to at least BSc or equivalent experience in science
- Have the ability to troubleshoot problems with experiments, communicate issues well with relevant team members in a timely manner, and arrive at an appropriate solution
- Able to work with Category 2 biological materials (full training will be provided)
- Pay strong attention to detail, with the ability to generate protocols, organise samples and record results in a clear and organised fashion
- Take responsibility for key aspects of studies and have the ability to write up experimental results and interpret data
- IT skills including a knowledge of Word, Excel (i.e. database management) and PowerPoint programs
- Ability to organise own workload and take initiative as appropriate, working within a high-output, multi-disciplinary team environment
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment
