As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Plant Manager to oversee the management, maintenance, compliance, and deployment of our extensive fleet of demolition plant, machinery, vehicles, and specialist attachments.
The Role
The Plant Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the business's plant department, ensuring all equipment is maintained to the highest standards, compliant with statutory requirements, and available to support operational demands across multiple projects.
This is a key management position requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the business's fleet of demolition excavators, crushers, screeners, attachments, vehicles, and ancillary equipment.
- Oversee all servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, DVSA, and all relevant legislation.
- Manage plant allocation and logistics to ensure projects are fully supported.
- Lead and supervise plant fitters, workshop staff, and external service providers.
- Monitor plant performance, utilisation, and operating costs.
- Manage maintenance schedules and breakdown response procedures.
- Source, procure, and negotiate the purchase, hire, and disposal of plant and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, inspections, certifications, and repairs.
- Work closely with Contracts Managers, Site Managers, and Directors to meet operational requirements.
- Promote high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance throughout the department.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the plant operation.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Plant Manager, Fleet Manager, Workshop Manager, or Senior Plant Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of heavy plant, demolition equipment, and associated attachments.
- Excellent understanding of maintenance management and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing workshop teams and external suppliers.
- Strong commercial awareness and budget management skills.
- Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- CPCS, NPORS, or relevant industry qualifications.
- Experience within the demolition, construction, quarrying, or recycling sectors.
- Knowledge of transport compliance and fleet management.
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
