Engine Builder – Classic Porsche RestorationJob Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Engine Builder to join our restoration team specializing in classic and air-cooled Porsche models. The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete disassembly, inspection, machining coordination, rebuilding, testing, and installation of Porsche engines while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, originality, and performance. Typical projects include vintage Porsche 356, early 911, 912, 930, and other classic models.
Key Responsibilities
- Disassemble, inspect, and assess classic Porsche engines.
- Measure and document engine components using precision tools.
- Diagnose wear, damage, and mechanical failures.
- Rebuild engines to factory specifications or customer performance requirements.
- Perform engine blueprinting, balancing, compression ratio calculations, and tolerance checks.
- Coordinate machining operations with specialist machine shops.
- Restore and refinish engine components to period-correct standards.
- Assemble engines using meticulous quality-control procedures.
- Conduct engine testing, tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Install engines into restored vehicles and perform final road testing.
- Maintain detailed build records, photographs, and restoration documentation.
- Work closely with fabrication, body, transmission, and restoration departments on complete vehicle projects.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience rebuilding automotive engines.
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engine principles.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and workshop manuals.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial gauges, and bore gauges.
- Knowledge of engine machining processes and tolerances.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a restoration team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with air-cooled Porsche engines.
- Background in classic car restoration or motorsport engineering.
- Familiarity with Porsche 356, early 911, 912, 930, and 964 engines.
- Experience with carburetor tuning, fuel injection systems, and transmission rebuilding.
- Machining skills including lathe and milling machine operation.
