The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operative Level 3 (Plant Operator) to join our Waste Disposal Team at the Waste Transfer Station. If you are a motivated, hands-on individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment, this is your opportunity to play an important role in keeping Torbay clean and running efficiently.
You will play a vital role in helping SWISCo meet its legal obligations under the Environmental Permit by undertaking material sampling and operating the weighbridge accurately and efficiently.

- Working hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 - 16:00
About the role
As a Material Sampler & Weighbridge Operator, you will:
- Carry out sampling of recycling materials in line with legislative requirements
- Collect, record, and collate data to ensure compliance with Environmental Permit conditions
- Operate the weighbridge, ensuring all vehicle movements, weights, and waste types are recorded accurately
- Support daily operational requirements within the waste transfer station
- Work collaboratively as part of Team SWISCo to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency
This role requires attention to detail and the ability to balance compliance tasks alongside operational demands in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Ensuring the material sampling is undertaken in accordance with legislation
- Preparing Environment Agency Quarterly Returns
- Weighing internal and external vehicles as part of weighbridge operations
- Ensuring compliance documentation is completed correctly

Knowledge
- Effective knowledge of Health & Safety processes.

Experience
- Able to demonstrate and in-still trust to staff members at all levels, clients/customers, and the general public.
- Previous experience of operating a weighbridge and related software system.
Qualifications
- Hold relevant weighbridge competency certificate
