Full job description

Amcol Scotland Ltd are committed to the care and welfare of young people in a childcare environment and are seeking to recruit an Early Years Practitioner at Meiklewood Nursery. Meiklewood Nursery is a purpose-built establishment registered to provide care for 119 children and is located in the Drumoyne area of Glasgow.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the learning and development of children through the planning and preparation of stimulating learning experiences in line with national documents. The successful applicant will provide care and support while promoting independence in our young learners.

This is a full-time position and candidates will be required to work Monday - Friday from 8am - 4:30pm, with one late night per week (9:15-6:00pm).

Applicants must possess a relevant qualification to be considered for this role such as HNC Childhood Practice, SCQF Level 7 in Social Services Children and Young People or NNEB, as required by the SSSC for registration purposes.

This position is subject to membership of the SSSC and PVG Scheme.

Responsibilities

Develop a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children
Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.)to teach children
Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum (identify shapes, numbers or colors, do crafts etc.)
Organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
Track children’s progress and report to parents
Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche
Collaborate with other educators
Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards

Skills

Proven experience as an early years educator with young children
Excellent understanding of national guidance and documents
Familiarity with health and safety procedures within nurseries
Excellent communication and instructional skills
