Amber Home Improvements is looking for an experienced Window and Door Surveyor to join our growing team.
We are a long-established, family-oriented home improvement company based in Norwich, with a strong reputation for quality products, professional installation and aftercare. As the business continues to grow, we are looking for a technically strong, organised and experienced surveyor who can help ensure every job is surveyed accurately and set up properly before manufacture and installation.
This is primarily a domestic surveying role, focused on replacement windows, doors, French doors, patio doors, bi-folding doors and composite doors. We are open to either a full-time candidate or an experienced surveyor looking for a 60–80% role, depending on the person and their experience.
The core requirement is someone who is accurate, technically competent, confident with customers and able to work well with our sales, office, ordering and installation teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed site surveys for domestic replacement windows, doors and associated glazing products.
- Survey PVCu, aluminium and composite windows and doors accurately and professionally.
- Measure and record all relevant dimensions, specifications, access requirements and installation details.
- Assess structural openings, support requirements, cills, trims, finishing details and installation risks.
- Review jobs against the original sales specification and raise any discrepancies or concerns before manufacture.
- Identify potential technical, structural, planning, Building Regulation or FENSA-related issues at survey stage.
- Produce clear survey notes, drawings, photographs and supporting information for the office, ordering and installation teams.
- Liaise professionally with customers while on site.
- Work closely with the wider team to ensure jobs move smoothly from survey to installation.
- Help reduce installation issues, remakes and customer disruption through accurate surveying and clear communication.
- Support the business with technical guidance where required.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Previous experience surveying domestic windows and doors.
- Strong technical knowledge of PVCu, aluminium and composite window and door installations.
- Good understanding of Building Regulations, planning considerations, structural requirements and FENSA requirements.
- Ability to assess structural openings, load-bearing considerations, lintels, tolerances and potential installation risks.
- Confident measuring and specifying windows, doors, French doors, patio doors, bi-folding doors and composite doors.
- Good understanding of installation methods, trims, cills, add-ons, finishing details and site conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Confident using IT systems, including tablets, email, digital forms, photos and job management software.
- Organised, reliable and able to manage a busy survey schedule.
- Professional and customer-focused when representing the company on site.
- Clear communicator with the ability to flag issues early and work well with internal teams.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous, but are not essential:
- Experience surveying aluminium systems in more technical settings.
- Experience with shopfronts, commercial glazing, curtain walling or other commercial projects.
- Experience surveying conservatories, orangeries, extensions or other living-space projects.
- Ability to produce or amend CAD drawings.
- Experience working with builders, architects, commercial clients or main contractors.
- Knowledge of roof lanterns, solid roofs, cladding, roofline or other associated home improvement products.
The Person We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes pride in getting things right first time.
The right candidate will be practical, technically minded and confident on site. You should understand that a good survey is not just about measuring accurately, but about spotting issues before they become problems for the customer, the installer or the business.
You will need to be professional with customers, clear with colleagues and thorough in the way you record information. You should be confident enough to make sensible technical decisions, but also know when to raise a query or ask for support.
Accuracy, technical judgement, communication and reliability are key to this role.
Working Pattern and Package
This role is available on either a full-time basis or a part-time basis, approximately 60–80% of full-time hours, for the right candidate.
We are open to speaking with experienced surveyors who may not want a traditional full-time role, but who can bring strong technical knowledge, accuracy and reliability to the business.
The salary will be competitive and dependent on experience.
A company vehicle, tools, phone/laptop/tablet and wider package can be discussed depending on the final role structure.
What We Offer
- A stable role within a growing, family-oriented business.
- Full-time or 60–80% working pattern considered.
- Varied domestic work, with opportunities to support commercial or building projects where suitable.
- Support from an experienced office, sales, ordering and installation team.
- Opportunity to work across a broad range of window, door and glazing products.
- Competitive salary and bonus structure.
- Company vehicle, tools and equipment package to be discussed.
