We are looking for an education leader with experience of line management and supervision of staff as well as best practice across the education sector in terms of curriculum building, quality assuring teaching and learning and SEN and Safeguarding practices.
We primarily work with young people who have either been excluded from mainstream education and/or currently aren’t coping within their school setting full time. Many of these young people have experienced or continue to experience trauma in their lives and may also have additional learning needs. Our provision is built around giving them wider skills to lead a happier life as well as academic outcomes.
The successful candidate will be therefore be skilled in trauma informed practice, understanding of SEN and confident leading a small team of teachers with continued professional development. They will be expected to contribute to annual reviews, student reports and liaison with schools, parents and carers.
A keen understanding of EHCP's, in particular cognition and learning interventions, excellent communication skills and a strong sense of teamwork are integral to this role as well as sharing our ethos of putting the child at the centre of all decisions.
This role will sit within the Senior Leadership Team and as such a high level of professionalism and role modelling is expected within the role and experience of leading staff within an education setting is highly beneficial.
Areas of responsibility
As part of the Senior Leadership Team the Education Manager will be responsible for role modelling professional standards and leadership within the wider team as well as, more specifically:
Operational:
· To quality assure teaching and learning processes in line with the implementation of the Teaching and Learning Policy.
· To oversee curriculum development and ensure the curriculum is meeting the needs of all learners including monitoring and pro-actively adapting individual student curriculum.
· To act as the organisation’s Careers Lead, ensuring relevant policies are up to date and careers related opportunities are made widely available to all students in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
· To monitor personal and academic progress of all students including academic outcomes and report termly on this to wider SLT.
· To continually monitor and support updates to the one-Page Profile for all students.
· To ensure completion of student weekly reports, supervising the Education Administrator, and termly parent/carer reports.
· To monitor and update the teaching and Learning Policy annually.
· To oversee student induction and assessment processes through line management of the IQA/EQA Co-ordinator.
· To oversee pupil timetables including supporting and developing individualised provision and appropriate interventions from learner EHCPs and ensure their delivery as well as visual timetables for all learners.
· To lead on cognition and learning intervention as directed in Section F of the EHCP and work closely with the SEN team in co-ordination of these.
· To oversee the regular attendance at PEP meetings of the IQA/EQA Co-ordinator and liaise with the Head of Safeguarding in relation to all Children in Care.
· To act as point of contact for all schools commissioning to SW ALP & Mentoring and professionally represent the organisation at all relevant meetings and ensure accurate and timely input into all education reports.
· To attend and contribute effectively to annual reviews for pupils within our Secondary provision.
Staffing:
· To lead and line manage teachers, education administrative support and the IQA/EQA Lead Co-ordinator to continually develop practice and support.
Behaviour:
· To support effective implementation of behaviour policies and principles in a trauma informed and inclusive way.
Safeguarding:
· To support students in need and report accordingly to the Head of Safeguarding.
· To support students through liaison with external agencies and attendance at meetings as required- e.g. Social Services, Early Help etc.
· To maintain regular and effective communication with parents of all students in the year group, for both pastoral and behavioural reasons.
· To share all safeguarding concerns with designated safeguarding lead and record on the CPOMS system.
· To undertake mandatory training for Safeguarding and be qualified at L2.
This role is line managed by the Head of Provision and is for a September 2026-27 start however we would consider candidates availability for an earlier start date.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Supervision or line management experience in an education setting.
- Teaching qualification and experience in a range of education settings.
- Up to date L2 safeguarding training.
- Trauma informed and SEN training/ experience.
- Ethos and values that put the child first and reflect those of SW ALP & Mentoring.
- Excellent written skills and experience of reporting and working closely in partnership with internal and external partners.
- Flexibility, creativity and innovation in approach, clear communication and a strong team ethic.
- A knowledge of the alternative learning landscape within the UK.
Desirable:
- Education senior or middle leadership experience.
- PGCE qualified and teaching experience.
- SEN qualification
- Policy and process writing.
- Experience in reviewing and monitoring EHCP progress.

We are a well established alternative learning provision based mainly in Bristol and South Gloucestershire however we also have bases in Gloucester and Swindon and offer a range of learning and mentoring experiences for young people from Primary ages through to Post 16.
Our teacher led provision focuses on the delivery of English, maths and PSHE predominantly with Arts and Music also included.
Additional Information
Hours: 35 per week - Monday to Friday (9am-4pm).
Contract: Up to £35000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
Date: From September 2026 – Term time only – 10 weeks paid holiday per annum (during school holidays).
Pay: Up to £35,000.00 per year
