Job Summary

The Reptile Hotel is a specialist reptile store based in Birtley. Our modern, state-of-the-art store is renowned for outstanding customer service and meticulous attention to detail. We create tailored setups and provide expert, ongoing support so every customer can give their reptiles the very best care. We also supply thousands of customers across the country through our online store, shipping in excess of 100,000 orders annually.

We are now looking for an experienced Retail Operations Manager to lead the store, uphold our high standards, ensure our online picking and packing operations run smoothly and play a key role in its continued success. This is a hands-on leadership role in a busy, fast-paced environment.

About the Role

As Store Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the store and ensure the online operations run smoothly. You will remain actively involved in animal care, customer service, and stock management. You will lead by example, ensure excellent standards across every area of the business, and help shape the future growth of The Reptile Hotel and Reptiles By Post

Being extremely well organised, with abundantly clear communication, is an absolute necessity. Building good working relationships with the whole team, while keeping them accountable, is essential in helping bring this small but complex business together. You will ultimately be part of that foundation.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a confident, organised and enthusiastic individual with a genuine passion for reptiles, retail and running a smooth operation. You don’t need to know everything — we all continue to learn — but you should bring solid foundational knowledge and experience in team management, ideally with previous experience in a fast-paced environment.

Essential requirements:

Previous retail experience (management or supervisory experience is highly desirable)
Strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills — friendly, informative and professional with customers and the team
Highly organised, punctual and reliable
Outgoing personality with a positive, can-do attitude that will continue to go above and beyond
Experience in a pet store environment would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and motivate the team to deliver consistently outstanding customer service
Oversee the welfare of all animals in store, including daily husbandry, enclosure maintenance and setting up new habitats to the highest standards in collaboration with the team.
Manage stock control, stock replenishment and the timely processing of supplier orders
Maintain impeccable standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the store, back-office areas and our dispatch area.
Coordinate the fulfilment of online orders and respond promptly to issues where necessary.
Support the overall management and smooth running of the store, contributing ideas for improvement and growth
Build strong relationships with the team, customers and key stakeholders

Pay: £30,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
