Full job description

Job Summary

We are a Boat Building and Marine Engineering company looking for an experienced Plater/Fabricator to join our busy, hands-on team. This is a practical role working directly on marine vessels, carrying out the fabrication, assembly, and installation of steel and metal components on both new builds and in-service boats.

You’ll be on the tools daily – measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling plate and structural steel, working from drawings, and ensuring high-quality fabrication suited to real-world marine environments.

Key Responsibilities

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
Measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling steel and other metals
Fabricating structural components, frames, and plate work
Using tools and machinery such as grinders, cutters, and welding equipment
Conducting quality checks to ensure work meets required standards
Working safely in line with company procedures and health & safety regulations
Collaborating with team members to meet production deadlines

Requirements

Proven experience as a Plater, Fabricator, or in a similar role
Ability to read and understand technical drawings
Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques and materials
Experience with welding (desirable but not essential, depending on role)
Good attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Relevant qualifications or apprenticeship (preferred)

Pay: £15.74-£18.45 per hour
