Yard Operative/Forklift Driver/Transit Driver

Robert Price (Builders’ Merchants) Ltd. - Caerphilly

We have a permanent vacancy for a Yard Worker/Forklift Driver/Transit Driver at our Caerphilly Branch.

Robert Price Builders’ Merchants Ltd is a family run independent business, with head office in Abergavenny. Founded in 1847, we are a substantial local employer, with the developments and progressions of a modern large enterprise and the grounding and values of a traditional family run business. We are the largest independent builders’ merchant in South East Wales.

What is a builders’ merchant?

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.

Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.

Hours:

40 hours per week to be worked between 7:30am - 16:30pm, with 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (08:00am - 12:00pm).

Pay:

Negotiable according to experience.

Benefits:

Include death-in-service scheme membership, NEST pension scheme membership. 30 days holidays including bank holidays. Uniform, boot money allowance, and discretionary bonus.

Duties:

Picking orders, loading and unloading and related paperwork
General warehouse duties and stock management
Customer service - dealing with customers in person
Driving forklift at the branch
Making local deliveries on the transit

Essential Skills:

Clean driving licence (Class B) and at least 2 years driving experience
A good understanding of metric and imperial measurements and basic mental arithmetic
Good paperwork skills
Confident communicator
Proven teamwork skills
Naturally tidy and organised
Willingness to engage with customers and provide good customer service
Ability to follow instructions and work unsupervised once trained
Reliable, industrious, adaptable and quick to grasp new concepts
Manual handling up to 25kg

Desirable:

Good knowledge of building materials and their usage
An interest in sales and in the construction industry
Counterbalance forklift license

The role offers scope to develop selling skills, customer service and an understanding of materials, stock control, orders and deliveries.
