Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of the design and delivery of mechanical systems used in industrial inkjet equipment. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You will lead projects from initial requirements through to release and support in service, working across design, testing, production, and suppliers to ensure robust, practical solutions are delivered. You will be expected to take accountability for outcomesnot just contribute to designs, but see them through.
What You Will Be Responsible For
Design & Engineering
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components
- Take designs from requirements capture through to production and eventual obsolescence
- Produce clear, accurate CAD models, drawings, and technical specifications
- Carry out mechanical analysis (structural, tolerance, etc.) to ensure designs are fit for purpose
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes
- Build and evaluate prototypes where required
Project Delivery
- Take ownership of work packages and ensure delivery on time and within budget
- Plan and track your work, providing clear and regular progress updates
- Work within a structured stage gate process
- Identify risks early and take action to keep projects on track
- Present progress and technical decisions to senior management when required
Testing & Validation
- Define and execute practical test plans
- Work with test teams to carry out environmental and performance testing
- Interpret results, identify issues, and drive improvements
- Support product acceptance activities, including First Article Inspection (FAI)
Problem Solving
- Identify and resolve design and product issues, often with incomplete information
- Take a structured, logical approach to fault finding
- Support production and service teams in diagnosing and resolving technical problems
Working with Others
- Work closely with electrical, software, production, and service teams
- Engage with suppliers to ensure components are delivered to specification
- Build effective working relationships internally and externally
Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure designs follow best practice and company standards
- Look for practical ways to improve products, processes, and reliability
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
Leadership
- Support and mentor junior engineers
- Provide clear technical direction where needed
- Contribute to a focused, delivery-driven engineering team
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Strong experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment
- Confident using SolidWorks CAD to produce production-ready designs
- Good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
- Experience delivering engineering work to deadlines
- A practical, methodical approach to problem solving and fault finding
- Comfortable working across disciplines and with suppliers
- Clear communicatorable to explain technical issues without overcomplicating them
- Self-motivated and reliable, with a proactive approach
Desirable
- Experience with industrial printing equipment or similar machinery
- Experience working in a structured product development environment
Additional Information
Occasional additional hours may be required to meet project deadlines, but this is not expected to be routine.
