At Autec Training Ltd, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee Construction Plant & Health & Safety Instructor.
This is a rare opportunity to receive comprehensive, fully funded training while earning a competitive salary. Working alongside our experienced instructors, you will develop the practical, technical and instructional skills required to become a fully qualified Plant & Health & Safety Instructor.
No previous instructor experience is required – we are looking for the right attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
About the Role
During your structured training programme, you will:
- Shadow experienced instructors delivering accredited and in-house training courses.
- Learn to safely operate and instruct on a wide variety of construction plant and machinery.
- Gain detailed knowledge of construction health & safety legislation and industry best practice.
- Develop presentation, coaching and assessment skills.
- Learn how to conduct practical and theoretical operator assessments.
- Assist with training delivery at our purpose-built training centre in Peterborough.
- Support training activities at customer sites throughout the UK.
- Help maintain training records and course documentation.
- Assist with site inspections, audits and health & safety activities.
As your experience grows, you will gradually take on more responsibility before progressing to independently delivering training courses and assessments.
Comprehensive Training Programme
You will receive extensive training on approximately 20–30 categories of plant and machinery, including:
- Excavators
- Dumpers
- Forklifts
- Rollers
- Telescopic Handlers (Telehandlers)
- Loading Shovels
- Skid Steers
- Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs)
- Access Equipment
- Agricultural Machinery
- And many more
You will also receive training in:
- Construction Health & Safety
- Risk Assessment Development
- Method Statements & Safe Systems of Work
- Workplace Safety Procedures
- PUWER & LOLER Requirements
- Plant Inspection Procedures
- Accident Investigation
- Training & Assessment Techniques
- Presentation & Classroom Delivery Skills
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- Enthusiastic and eager to learn.
- Reliable, professional and self-motivated.
- Confident communicating with people from all backgrounds.
- Keen to build a long-term career.
- Comfortable travelling throughout the UK.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office, email and online systems.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong organisational skills.
Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Previous construction site experience.
- Experience operating construction plant or machinery.
- Knowledge of construction health & safety.
- Previous experience in coaching, mentoring or training.
Full training will be provided to the successful candidate.
Travel & Working Hours
This role includes:
- Travel throughout the UK.
- Occasional overnight stays.
- Occasional weekend work when required.
- Weekend work paid at time and a half.
