Balfour Beatty is looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join the team in Peterhead, supporting the delivery of the ASTI Project — a major programme helping strengthen Scotland’s energy network and support the transition to a cleaner, more resilient future.
This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced commercial leader who wants to take ownership of project performance, lead a team, and play a key role on a nationally important infrastructure scheme.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide commercial leadership across the project, ensuring strong contractual control, accurate reporting, effective cost management and robust commercial governance.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading and supporting Quantity Surveying staff across the project
- Developing and delivering the commercial strategy to protect margin and manage risk
- Overseeing cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow, valuations and final accounts
- Managing subcontract procurement, subcontract accounts and commercial performance
- Identifying, valuing and agreeing variations with the customer
- Supporting project reviews, reporting and commercial decision-making
- Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty’s commercial processes, BMS and Group Minimum Commercial Expectations
- Maintaining a relentless focus on Zero Harm, sustainability and Balfour Beatty values
The role profile highlights that this position is responsible for commercial and contractual control, managing a small team of Quantity Surveyors, and guiding project teams on all commercial matters.
Who we're looking for
We’re looking for a commercially astute Managing Quantity Surveyor who can lead from the front, influence stakeholders and create a strong, collaborative commercial team.
You’ll bring:
- Substantial Quantity Surveying experience within a relevant construction or infrastructure environment
- Proven experience managing commercial performance on complex projects
- Strong understanding of margin, risk, cash flow, forecasting and contract administration
- Experience leading, influencing and developing commercial teams
- A valid CSCS card
- Professional membership or qualification such as RICS, CIOB, ICE or similar would be desirable
