Role: Graduate or Junior Buyer / procurement specialist
Sector: Electronics and manufacturing
Location: Swindon
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000
General Description:
- Chase suppliers for delivery dates.
- Request quotations for cable, connectors, and other components.
- Raise purchase orders.
- Update delivery schedules.
- Help manage shortages and stock levels.
- Support senior buyers with supplier negotiations and sourcing activities.
You'll keep production supplied, suppliers accountable and stakeholders informed, playing a key part in keeping customer commitments on track.
The Buyer will be responsible for interpreting and communicating technical specifications from design engineers to suppliers.
Additionally, the buyer will be responsible for ensuring sub-contract suppliers are selected and developed to meet all material delivery milestones.
You will be sourcing both nationally and internationally, negotiating with new and existing suppliers.
This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
This is a pivotal role in the company’s transition from an R&D house developing concepts and prototypes, to one of delivering high revenue growth through the sale of mature and effective products.
Responsibilities:
You will manage the full purchasing cycle, from raising purchase orders through to goods arriving on site, keeping a close eye on delivery schedules and chasing suppliers where needed to protect production timelines. When orders slip, you'll step in quickly to expedite, troubleshoot and find workarounds that keep disruption to a minimum.
Accuracy matters in this role. You'll be responsible for keeping the ERP system (CIM50 / Sage) up to date across purchasing records, costs and stock levels, ensuring the business always has reliable data to work from.
Supplier relationships will be a big part of your week. You'll be in regular contact on pricing, lead times and order progress, and you'll support wider sourcing activity by identifying alternative suppliers and gathering quotations when the situation calls for it.
This is a highly collaborative position. You'll work hand in hand with engineering, production and sales colleagues to make sure purchasing decisions reflect real operational priorities, and you'll be encouraged to bring ideas, whether that's introducing simple tracking tools to improve visibility of urgent requirements or finding smarter ways to cut delays.
If applying for a experienced position:
- Experience in a purchasing, procurement or buying role, ideally within electronics, manufacturing or an engineering environment
- Confidence working with ERP systems (CIM50, Sage or similar)
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple orders and priorities
- A clear, professional communicator, comfortable dealing with suppliers and internal teams alike
- A hands-on, solutions-focused mindset with an eye for process improvement
Pay: £25,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Free parking
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
