Teacher – Alternative Provision

Thrive Alternative Provision – Debdale Site

Location: Debdale, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

This is an exciting opportunity to work with young people who require a personalised and nurturing approach to education, helping them overcome challenges, re-engage with learning, and achieve positive outcomes.Our learners often present with SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or have experienced disruption in mainstream education. We are looking for a teacher who can build positive relationships, inspire confidence, and create meaningful learning experiences that help young people thrive.

About Thrive Alternative Provision Thrive Alternative Provision supports children and young people who require an alternative approach to education. We provide a safe, structured, and supportive environment where learners can develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality education alongside therapeutic and vocational opportunities that prepare learners for successful transitions into mainstream education, specialist provision, further education, apprenticeships, employment, and adult life.

The Role As a Teacher at Thrive Alternative Provision, you will play a vital role in delivering engaging and inclusive learning experiences while supporting the wider development of our learners. You will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons, supporting behaviour and wellbeing, maintaining safeguarding standards, and contributing to the ongoing development of our provision. This role would suit an individual who is passionate about helping vulnerable learners achieve their potential and who thrives within a supportive, collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of learners.
Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress, adapting teaching to maximise outcomes.
Support learners to develop confidence, resilience, independence, and employability skills.
Contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), EHCP reviews, and pupil reports.

Behaviour and Safeguarding

Promote high standards of behaviour through positive relationships and consistent expectations.
Implement behaviour support strategies that encourage engagement and achievement.
Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
Record and report safeguarding concerns in line with Thrive policies and statutory guidance.
Ensure compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and all safeguarding procedures.

Supporting Learners with Additional Needs

Support learners with SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Work closely with the SENCO and external professionals to provide effective interventions.
Adapt learning activities and support strategies to meet individual needs.

Leadership and Wider School Contribution

Take responsibility for a curriculum area, subject, or vocational pathway.
Support curriculum development and enrichment opportunities.
Share best practice with colleagues and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
Provide support and guidance to teaching assistants and support staff.
Represent Thrive professionally in meetings with parents, carers, schools, and external agencies.

Site Operations and Learner Welfare

Support the smooth day-to-day running of the Debdale site.
Contribute to pupil arrival, registration, supervision, and end-of-day routines.
Ensure resources and learning environments remain safe, organised, and fit for purpose.
Support educational visits, enrichment activities, transition programmes, and off-site learning opportunities.
Promote respect for the learning environment and model professional standards at all times.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, behaviour, and safeguarding records.
Participate in lesson observations, audits, reviews, and quality assurance activities.
Contribute to Ofsted readiness and school improvement planning.
Ensure compliance with GDPR, health and safety requirements, and relevant legislation.

What We're Looking ForEssential

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Experience working with children and young people.
Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable

Experience working within Alternative Provision, SEND, SEMH, specialist education, or similar settings.
Experience supporting learners with EHCPs.
Knowledge of ASDAN, Functional Skills, GCSE pathways, or vocational learning programmes.
Experience working with external agencies and multi-disciplinary teams.
