Dartmoor Zoo is looking for an enthusiastic and customer‑focused Catering, Retail & Events Assistant.
This flexible role supports the smooth running of our catering outlets, retail area, and on‑site events. You’ll help create a welcoming, enjoyable experience for visitors while working in a unique conservation‑focused setting.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and providing excellent customer service in a fast‑paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Work flexibly across catering, retail, and events operations
- Prepare and serve food and beverages safely and hygienically
- Deliver friendly, professional customer service at all times
- Operate cash and card payments using EPOS systems
- Clear tables and keep restaurant and retail areas clean and welcoming
- Clean department areas, including customer toilets
- Support events such as weddings, conferences, and private functions
- Answer visitor questions or direct them to the appropriate team member
- Carry out other reasonable duties to support the organisation
What we’re looking for
Essential:
- Availability to work weekends and occasional evenings
- Experience in catering, food & beverage, retail, or a customer‑facing role
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good time management skills and ability to stay calm under pressure
- High standards of presentation, reliability, and professionalism
Desirable:
- Food Hygiene Certificate
- Experience using EPOS systems (or willingness to learn)
- Own transport to travel to site
