About the role

A new and exciting opportunity to join our Trading Standards Team as a Tobacco and Vape Apprentice has arisen. You will focus on tackling illegal and underage sales as well as supporting businesses to achieve compliance across a vast range of tobacco and vapes regulations designed to protect consumers and in particular children. This is a hybrid, fully funded, fixed term position until 31st March 2029.

We do not require any previous Trading Standards experience but do require applicants to have the dedication and commitment to undertake the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional (Tobacco and Vape) Apprenticeship.

We will provide on the job training across all aspects of Trading Standards delivered by our supportive and experienced team members.

What will you be doing?

You will undertake the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional (Tobacco and Vape) Apprenticeship along with any additional qualifications required. Please see full details of the apprenticeship requirements attached.

You will work towards obtaining the requisite skills and knowledge to carry out the full duties of a Trading Standards Officer.

With the supervision and guidance of more experienced Officers you will gather and process intelligence and respond to complaints and enquiries with a focus on but not restricted to tobacco and vaping products.

You will undertake project work, carry out inspections of business, investigate business non-compliance and provide support, advice and guidance to local businesses.

About you

We are looking for an individual who is; passionate about consumer protection and the role Trading Standards have, has a positive attitude, who can remain calm and confident under pressure with the ability to communicate well.

We require 5 GCSE's grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language and two A Levels (or equivalent).
