A dairy farm near Pontesbury, Shrewsbury is looking for a Dairy Milker to work every other weekend to carry out the milking routine efficiently while maintaining high standards of milk quality, animal welfare, cleanliness, and hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the milking parlour and equipment before each milking.
- Bring cows calmly and safely to and from the milking area.
- Carry out milking procedures in accordance with farm protocols.
- Monitor cows for signs of illness, mastitis, lameness, or injury and report concerns promptly.
- Ensure milk quality standards are maintained at all times.
- Clean and sanitise milking equipment, parlour, and surrounding areas after milking.
- Record relevant herd information and treatments as required.
Skills and Experience
- Previous dairy farming or milking experience preferred but not essential.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to hygiene standards.
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
- Ability to handle livestock confidently and calmly.
Hours & Pay
- Pay dependent on experience starting at £14.00 per hour with an option to agree a flat rate per milking. Working days and hours would be every other weekend with the option of some week day milking as-well.
- Milking starts at 5 am and 2.30 pm. Milking average between 3 -4 hours depending on the time of year.
