The Environment Team at Winfrith is an integral part of the wider EHSS&Q function, setting expectations, managing risk, and driving improvements that support the site’s decommissioning mission. We are experts in our field, committed to continuous improvement, and now looking for someone who shares that ambition.
In this role, you’ll serve as the site’s leading authority on environmental management, using your expertise to guide best practice and influence key decisions. You’ll be instrumental in applying Best Available Techniques across operations, helping to maintain high standards and shape overall environmental performance.
Alongside this, you’ll lead monitoring activities, drive improvement actions, and provide supportive leadership to the wider team to ensure excellence in delivery.
- Ensure compliance with our Environmental Permits through ongoing oversight, assessment, including reporting on our radiological discharges. This includes the preparation and submission of returns to the Environment Agency.
- Monitor performance and take action, or provide advice, as necessary to maintain and improve environmental standards.
- Lead monitoring, compliance, and improvement activities while supporting and developing the team.
To succeed in this role, your background should demonstrate confidence in interpreting and applying environmental and radioactive substances legislation, ensuring compliance and providing well-reasoned technical input where needed.
You’ll also have hands-on experience in specialist environmental or technical roles, supported by a solid understanding of organisational processes. Leadership skills, either proven or emerging will enable you to guide others, influence decision‑making, and contribute effectively to a high‑performing team.
- Degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (or equivalent).
- Strong experience advising on Radioactive Substances Legislation (RSL), compliance with permits and / or authorisations and providing technical input into BAT assessments.
- Relevant experience in Environmental or Radiological related roles.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when handling large data sets.
- ISO14001 Auditor or similar auditing experience
- Member of a professional institute
